- Manage expectations– If networking events make you nervous, don’t psych yourself out with unrealistic expectations
- Prepare – Plan ahead and prepare some icebreakers. Open-ended questions spur interesting conversations.
Most people love to talk about themselves, their work and their hobbies. Set a time limit – When you decide ahead of time how long you’ll stay at an event, it makes the commitment finite and much less intimidating. At a minimum, give yourself 20 minutes to get your nametag, grab a drink and meet at least one new person.
